The big job last weekend was cruise control. There are a few options if a person wants to add cruise control to a motorcycle. Option one is a throttle lock. These little dohickies attach to the throttle tube on your handlebar and basically just prevent the throttle from springing back to idle. Simple, cheap, and effective. But they won't keep you from slowing down going up a hill or speeding up going downhill. Option two is to modify an aftermarket unit ment for a car. A bit pricey at a few hundred bucks, usually a big ugly plastic box hanging off your bike, and will take some tinkering and part matching to make work. Option three is a unit made for your bike. The components are smaller, all you gotta do is follow the directions, and it just works. This is the case with the unit I got from McCruise. The price is not cheap, but this really is a case of getting what you pay for. The documentation is extensive and easy to follow. The parts all fit like they are supposed to. The diagnostic routine is relatively painless. The only issue I had was the bike's computer not liking running without the intake snorkels over the air filters causing a rich idle that would hang. Once I had that all sorted it was on to the test drive. It just works, that's all I gotta say.
All told it took about six hours of taking my time over two days. The worst part was getting all the hoses connected back on the bottom of the air box. That sucked. If you are on the fence on getting an McCruise unit, go for it. It's a quality piece of kit.
